West Kilbride is a 'wee quirky' course, as a local might say. The greens are always great. In a mild breeze, it's friendly, benign and a lot of fun. But like all the Ayrshire links courses, if the wind picks up it will test your mettle even though it's not very long. Notably, all of the many out-of-bounds are on the slice side. When I played it, some of the rough was very thick, and you just have to assume a lost ball if you go there (for example to the right of the fairway on the short 11th.
