General questions

+   Quick fix

Switch the device off and
on again.

To do this, hold the Home button (center bottom) and the Sleep button (top right of the phone) down simultaneously until the white apple appears on the display. Release the buttons and wait until the iPhone has started up again (may take some time).

+   Suggestions and ideas

Can I send in requests and ideas for improvement for the app?

We are always interested in improving our application to make it as good as it can possibly be for our customers. Although we cannot promise to implement every customer request we will send you regular updates with various improvements. Therefore we would be happy to read your comments and ideas. Please also let us know if a golf course is redesigned or renumbered or if the score card information/ratings have been changed so that we can update the information straight away. Please tap here in order to contact us via e-mail.

+   Problems with an in-app purchase

Why isn't my in-app purchase activated?

In rare cases (e.g. if the internet connection is interrupted), an in-app purchase may not be activated. Should this happen, please do not make the purchase again as you will be charged twice. Contact us directly at support@expertgolf.com. We will be happy to activate the purchase for you manually.

GPS Caddie

+   Airplane mode

Does the “GPS Caddie” module work in airplane mode?

Yes, you don’t need a reception at all for this application, provided that you have downloaded the course data of the relevant course in advance.

+   Roaming costs

Are there any more costs involved in using the app (downloading data, roaming etc.)?

Expert Golf uses the free GPS signal. Once the app is installed there are virtually no other costs as only minimal volumes of data are transmitted when course data is downloaded. In particular, Expert Golf does not entail downloading aerial photos that can lead to extremely high costs with other providers. To avoid any costs at all, deactivate “Data Roaming” and download the course data before the round via Wi-Fi.

+   GPS charges

Are fees charged for using GPS?

No, receiving the GPS signal is free. (Please note: Some providers use aerial photos of the holes in their apps. Although these apps also use the free GPS signal for finding the position, downloading the aerial photos can incur extremely high roaming charges. Expert Golf does not use aerial photos and therefore no hidden charges are incurred.)

+   Accuracy

How accurate is the distance information provided by Expert Golf?

The accuracy of the distance information provided by Expert Golf depends on the strength of the GPS signal. Distance information is usually accurate to 1-3 meters/ yards.

+   Countries available

Which countries is GPS data available for?

Click here for a list of all the courses we have mapped. Please bear in mind that the accuracy of the data is of utmost importance to Expert Golf – therefore we do not provide a database with 30,000 inaccurately mapped courses, instead we concentrate on Europe and the most important holiday destinations. Hasn’t the course you want to play been mapped yet? Click here to contact our mapping team directly.

+   Course downloads per year

How many course downloads are included in my annual fee?

Your annual fee covers an unlimited number of course data downloads.

+   Use after one year

Can I continue to use the app after my annual fee has been used up?

Yes, you can definitely continue to use the app after the year has ended. All that you will not be able to do is download new courses from our database and you will no longer be able to update your own course list at the push of a button.

+   User mapping

Can I map a golf course myself?

Sorry, this option is not currently available. If the course you want to play has not yet been mapped tap here to contact our mapping team via e-mail.

+   Battery capacity

Does the iPhone have enough battery capacity for 18 holes?

We have optimized the energy consumption of Expert Golf to ensure that a round of golf uses a maximum of 50% of the battery. If you regularly put the iPhone in standby it uses less than 20%.

+   Changing distances

Why does the distance information on the display change even if I am no longer moving?

Depending on the model of your iPhone, the GPS receiver may have a slight time delay; it may therefore need 5-10 seconds after you have reached the ball until it calculates your position. Also, your iPhone continually recalculates your position – small differences can occur as a result of atmospheric interference.

+   Incorrect distance information

Why does the GPS distance information not match the distance markers on the course?

Check whether the distance markers on the course are in yards or meters and whether they are to the front or the middle of the green. Please remember that the distance markers on the course are often only accurate to a few meters. Make sure that your iPhone has a permanent satellite reception (bar with signal strength indicator on the top left). After reaching your ball wait for 5-10 seconds until the precise distance is shown.

+   Can’t find zero point

Why can’t I find the “zero point” of the measurement?

It is practically impossible to find the zero point of our measurements e.g. the middle of the green – the iPhone will usually show one or a few meters. This is because the iPhone finds it difficult to measure distances of less than 5 meters. However, it can identify larger distances with an accuracy of 1-3 meters.

+   No GPS signal

Why does my GPS signal strength indicator always stay within the red area (no GPS signal)?

If the bar with the signal strength indicator at the top left is always within the red area it means you don’t have any satellite reception. Move into an open space and check that the “Location Services” are activated.

+   Long download time

Why does downloading a course take so long?

The volume of data downloaded for each course is very small. Despite this, downloading a course can take a while. The time taken is due to the connection being established with the server and is not caused by the volume of data downloaded.

+   Golf club missing

How can I get a missing club added?

Hasn’t the course you want to play been mapped yet? Please tap here to contact our mapping team. Please tell us the exact name of the club and, if possible, provide other information such as the address, website etc.
