Steeped in history

It's hard not to be overawed as you stand on the first tee, not only because of all the famous faces whose footsteps you are following, but also because it's a devilish opening hole! Ernie Els' renovations weren't greeted with widespread acclaim, but they have enhanced some of the holes, including the par-4 8th and the par-5 18th. Quite simply, it's a must play for any dedicated golf fan, provided you have deep pockets.
Goosebumps

The West, home to the BMW PGA, is just one of those courses you just have to play if you're in Surrey. While not cheap to play, it's a memorable experience, especially if you've been to the tournament. Standout holes are the reachable par-5 4th, par-4 8th over a newly designed lake short, left of the green, par-5 12th over a giant tree off the tee, and back-to-back par-5s to finish where you will likely be happy to take two pars as they can both wreck a nice scorecard. You'll likely have goosebumps on the first tee, I did.
