First tee to die for
27.02.2017
Machrihanish, near Campelltown on the Kintyre peninsula, is magnificently remote, windswept and unspoilt. The course was originally 10 holes, and expanded to 18 in the 1870s by Old Tom Morris – later to be worked on by J.H. Taylor. How can you not feel awe and gratitude when you stand on the first tee at Machrihanish, where you must carry the beach that sprawls across to the front and left? One of the world’s great opening tee shots. If you love nature (and golfers by definition love nature) you will love this course in the dunes.
