Goes back to 1817

  14.05.2017

Scotscraig is the world's 13th oldest golf club, founded in 1817. The linksy heathland course is not as old, shaped by Old Tom Morris and James Braid. Visitors to St Andrews should definitely play it, but often it's overlooked, as it lies in a bit of a border area between the Fife courses and the Carnoustie Country collection of golf courses. They're extremely friendly toward visitors - if I were to stay for a summer in St Andrews I would probably take them up on their bargain 4-month trial membership. The course has good definition and is very easy to walk, with some stunningly good holes.

Strong test

Good location some 15 minutes from St Andrews. Founded in 1817 by some of members of St Andrews Society of Golfers, which later became the R&A as we know it today. The course has apparently remained unchanged but it's a serious test of golf. Some long par-4 holes will likely play into the wind. Fast greens and steep bunkers in places.
