Refreshingly Unstuffy

Despite being the 12th most senior of all the Royal clubs, Royal Eastbourne is surprisingly unstuffy, extremely friendly and exceptionally welcoming. The Devonshire course nestles very comfortably in the lee of the South Downs. Built on chalk, it drains very quickly. Despite appearing delightfully open and inviting, the slopes, humps, bunkers and hollows make it a rather trickier proposition than it might at first appear. Although he never enjoyed much success as a golfer, AJ Balfour, who was a member here, had the consolation of becoming Prime Minister.
