Stunning setting

Amazing views of the Sussex countryside on the high parts of this course. Great island hole at six, playing a flick with a wedge but like the Postage Stamp at Troon, it's fraught with danger. No real bunkers here, they are grassy pits and severe punishments in places. A variety of holes makes it fun.
Bunkerless!

Because it lies within the confines of Ashdown Forest, which is a particularly sensitive environmental area, the golf course is not allowed to build bunkers, which is great news for those of who hate those sandy nightmares! Bunkerless and beautiful, the course is a real cracker. Founded in 1888, the club is delightfully old-fashioned and is primarily a two-ball club that allows four balls to play on Monday with prior permission of the secretary. Try and emulate the feat of a big-hitting Jack Smith who won the long-driving competition that used to precede The Open. Anyway, he drove a ball from the 18th tee clean over the clubhouse and into the car park for a bet. It might be advisable to wait for the car park to empty before attempting to emulate Jack.
