This is where Ben Hogan practiced in 1953, before he won the Open at neighboring Carnoustie. It feels completely different to Carnoustie. It starts off with a couple of flat holes before it goes into 'rolling hills' mode - with several blind shots and a myriad of differently designed holes, raised greens, menacing bunkers, etc. It feels like a links course, but the sea is nowhere in sight. The final holes are just like the first ones, a bit flat, straight and boring. But the heart of the course is fantastic.
