Nestled right behind the beach and against the eponymous dunes, the course is considerably less compassionate than the friendly staff who work there. Deep bunkers, tight fairways, inhospitable swamps, sizeable ponds and wide lakes combine to create a tough but thrilling challenge. Even having successfully negotiated all the hazards, your problems are not entirely over as the greens are huge and undulating. Kiva Dunes was named one of the two best new courses when it first opened about 20 years ago.
