Until the Olympics in Rio in 2016, Compiègne was the only golf course to have hosted Olympic golf for both the women's and men's event, in 1900. The golf course is interwoven with a horse race track, and some of the holes have carries over the railings and hedges of the racetrack that crisscross at various angles, something that really messes up with your mind (it's impossible to get a sense of the correct distances). Errant shots, if they land on the race track area, can be very hard to get in play again because the grass is so lush. A strange experience, not top quality but still interesting and memorable.
