Carquefou hit the sporting headlines in 2008 when the local football team beat Olympique de Marseille to reach the quarter finals of the French cup. Built in the grounds of the Chateau de l'Epinay, the course benefits from plenty of elevation and is exceedingly pretty. The gently undulating greens are generously proportioned and well maintained. There are quite a few water hazards in the form of ponds and streams and there's even a modest river to avoid.
