Schwere Grüns und unfassbare Topfbunker
24.08.2024

Watch out for the bunkers

First course to host both Scottish Opens (M&F) in the same year. The owners of Loch Lomond (posh club near Glasgow) wanted a place where members could play links golf all year round. They bought Southern Gailes in 2003, renamed it Dundonald. Kyle Phillips design: grand (7100 yards), majestic, with some nefarious and deep bunkers that you don't want to land in. Not to mention the burns.
So difficult

Truly the hardest golf course I have seen in a long time. Long, wavy fairways, many water hazards in he middle of the game and really hard greens. If there is wind it's the hardest yet I have ever played. Wonderful practice range great for a fun round rather than for a tournament !
Great track

I love this course. It is a links course with big greens and rather wide fairways. Stay out of the bunkers and it is a fun course.
Classy

Massive gatehouse welcomes you at arrival, and the experience doesn't disappoint. Home to next year's Scottish Open and this year's Women's Open. Exemplary in terms of course presentation, facilities and friendliness of staff. Very big and fast greens, and plays to 7300 yards off the tips so it's a serious links test.
Another Kyle Phillips Stunner

Enjoy that glorious feeling of splendid isolation as the imposing dunes and mounds on either side provide both protection and a screen from the rest of mankind. Only occasionally are you reminded there is a world out there such as on the elevated 13th tee where you can watch golfers playing the neighbouring Kilmarnock Barassie and Western Gailes. Constant changes in direction spin you around but you miraculously return to the clubhouse at the 9th and 18th.
